Get Over It

Berke (Ben Foster) can't get over losing his sweetheart to a teen idol in a boy band. To win her back, Berke auditions for a Shakespeare musical production. At first, Berke's a bust. Then his friend's sister (Kirsten Dunst) offers to tutor him. She falls for the budding thespian, but how can she turn his head when it's already spinning for someone else? Zoe Saldana, Mila Kunis, Colin Hanks and Sisqo co-star.

As with most teen movies, Get Over It is entirely predictable, and there's not enough plot to sustain the length of the movie. However, it is not without its charms.

The kind of movie where only some of the characters have last names, this essentially sweet-natured enterprise feels slightly rushed and distracted. full review

Eddie Cockrell, Variety

The surprising part is how, once you get over the crude humor that the teen-movie genre demands, Get Over It is a nice little movie.

Sean Means, Film.com

A sweet teen romance flick. full review

Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Shakespeare probably made the point best: Teens rule; parents drool. full review

Globe and Mail, Globe and Mail

Get Over It is mostly an amateur hour fiasco. full review

Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

Get Over It breaks the formula for teen romances. full review

Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle

May be halfhearted, but it's not entirely without heart. full review

A.O. Scott, New York Times

Scarcely enough story for a half-hour TV sitcom.

Lou Lumenick, New York Post

A breath of fresh air. full review

Bruce Westbrook, Houston Chronicle

Deserves to be applauded for not casting Freddie Prinze Jr., but this sloppy, somnolent, strung-together flick pales when compared to such other teenage riffs on classic literature as Clueless and 10 Things I Hate About You.

Kevin Maynard, Mr. Showbiz

It's predictable but charming. full review

Gary Dowell, Dallas Morning News

Comes off more like a series of painful cliches than a comedy or a love story.

Christopher Muther, Boston Globe

Will make you feel like you're on spring break, whether you're in still school or not. full review

Joe Baltake, Sacramento Bee

A blithe-spirited comedy. full review

Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times

Offers a departure (albeit not a radical one) from the norm. full review

James Berardinelli, ReelViews

A teen movie that for once delivers brains along with babes and buffoons. full review

Peter Howell, Toronto Star

Underneath all the fuss, there's a half-baked plot that fails to make much of a connection.
