Eddie (Sean Penn) and Maureen (Robin Wright Penn) are crazy about each other. When a neighbor attacks Maureen, Eddie snaps -- a move that ends up costing him 10 years of his life. When he returns from prison, he discovers that his wife has gotten remarried to Joey (John Travolta). Now Maureen is caught in the middle, between the past and the present, between an inexplicable passion and an abiding love.
