Version 1.1 is now available. Click here to get it at the iTunes App Store.
You can navigate Netflix's streaming titles by genre, subgenre, popularity, rating, and more.
Tip: From the main genre menu (the middle screen above), you can drill down into subgenres by tapping the blue disclosure button. By tapping the middle of the row instead, you can see all the titles under that genre.
When you're viewing a specific genre or list, you can order the items by release year or title. You use the index bar along the right side to jump directly to a year or letter of the alphabet. Finally, there are three kinds of filters you can apply to narrow down the choices: minimum average rating, TV or movies only, and an MPAA filter that hides mature-rated titles.
You can find out more about a title in much the same way as on the website. You'll see a synopsis, an excerpt from The New York Times movie review when it's available, and some additional data like runtime, the expiration date, and the number of times the title has been queued or played via Instantwatcher. You'll also see links to Netflix, IMDB.com, Rotten Tomatoes, Wikipedia, and Google search that you can use to find more information and reviews.
Just like the website, the iPhone app can look for relevant YouTube clips and trailers, and you can play them right inside the application.
Please note: While you can play associated YouTube clips, you can't play the actual full-length Netflix instant titles in this application or, as far as I know, in any iPhone application.
It's easy to add titles from the iPhone app to your Netflix instant queue. The first time you try to queue a title, you'll have to authorize the iPhone application to add titles to your Netflix instant queue by going through Netflix's official OAuth authorization process. This authorization process is secure and simple, and after going through it once you won't have to worry about it again.
Search lets you find instant Netflix titles quickly by title, theme, or actor name. Bookmarks are a handy way to collect interesting titles that you spot while browsing. (Bookmarking is totally separate from queueing.) Finally, the Recently Queued list lets you see what people have just queued or played through Instantwatcher.
Now you can manage your Netflix Instant Queue. You can delete and reorder queued titles from this iPhone app.
