In this disturbing and very realistic horror film, a family spirals out of control thanks to a sickening series of events. Donald, a British aristocrat who has lost his wealth, is desperate to find treatment for his cancer-stricken wife, Nancy. In order to give her proper medical care, Donald plans to sell the family mansion. However, his troubled and mentally unstable son, James, decides that he's going look after mom. But when the nurse assigned to Nancy tries to care for the ailing woman, she ends up clashing with the volatile James.

When Whicher is hired to investigate threats made against the son of former Home Secretary Sir Edward Shore, he is led to dangerous corners of Victorian London’s Docklands, and also to the woman of his dreams.
