A group that moved from São Paulo, in search of a better quality of life and greater security, returns to the city to go to the theatre. After watching the play, the bus they hired is locked and the driver is not around.

Dora, a former teacher, earns money writing letters for illiterate people in Rio de Janeiro’s Central Station. One day she meets Josué, a nine-year-old boy whose mother requests Dora’s services so he can be reunited with his lost father. After the mother tragically dies, Dora reluctantly begins a journey with Josué across northern Brazil to find his family, gradually developing an unlikely bond.
