Viridiana
(1962)Banned in Spain and denounced by the Vatican, Luis Buñuel’s irreverent vision of life as a beggar’s banquet is regarded by many as his masterpiece. In it, novice nun Viridiana does her utmost to maintain her Catholic principles, but her lecherous uncle and a motley assemblage of paupers force her to confront the limits of her idealism. Winner of the Palme d’or at the 1961 Cannes Film Festival, Viridiana is as audacious today as ever.
Awakening of the Wolf
(1970)A model causes a straight-laced widower, who is the owner of a linen factory, to become intoxicated and then pretends to have been seduced.

Simon of the Desert
(1965)Based on the story of a 5th century ascetic who spent his days perched alone at the top of a pillar, with the added spice and satire that is typical of Buñuel. Silvia Pinal appears to have a blast as the shape-shifting Devil determined to tempt him down and lure him to a most surreal and otherworldly destination.

Men and Noblemen
(1959)In this delightful 1959 comedy by Giorgio Bianchi, Totò plays a humble man entangled in a world of aristocrats, pretensions, and social climbing. With biting humor and charm, the film satirizes class distinctions in postwar Italy. Featuring the incomparable Totò at his comic best, it’s a lesser-known gem of Italian cinema filled with sharp wit and timeless performances.

La Mujer Que Yo Perdí
(1949)When Pedro kills the son of an influential lawyer to save his girlfriend, he's forced to flee and receives help from a peasant woman.
