Teenaged Anna comes home from her Catholic boarding school to discover that her father has left. Her mother, devastated, has confined herself in the company of the local priest, while Anna clings to her beloved grandfather. Amidst her grief, Anna also grows close to Pierre, a free-spirited - and atheist - teenager. As Anna prepares for her confirmation, her budding desire for Pierre shakes her faith. She longs to give herself over, body and soul... but doesn't know if God should be the recipient or someone else...

Depressed and disoriented, filmmaker Mark uses a film project in Sicily to try to revive the love affair with the woman he lost in an accident. His assistant, a Chinese journalist and a wild traveler all take her place in his imagination, so that reality and fiction merge in the filmmaker's mind.
