Set in 1944 during WWII, an embittered G.I. returns to his war-weary unit after being demoted from staff sergeant to private but is forced once again step up into a leadership role when they are ordered to defend a position along the German front line.

Every September, this successful New York businessman (Rock Hudson) visits his Italian villa to relax and to romance his Roman girlfriend (Gina Lollobrigida). But after arriving unannounced one July day, he's in for a huge surprise! During his absence, the luxurious home has become a hotel.
